Scenes From An Italian Restaurant

6 MORE DAYS!!!

The songs I’m posting for my top ten are in no particular order from my least favorite to most favorite or anything like that. They are just my favorites …. and I could have done a top 20 list of his songs, but the concert isn’t THAT far away!

I’m posting these favorite songs because I was given A Magical Gift recently.

Scenes From an Italian Restaurant

One of my first “mission songs” as a little girl listening to “The Stranger” in my room one summer evening. I wanted to learn every word to this song… so… it was played OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again.

I listened to every song. Over and over and over.

This was the song I played for my friends Dave and Lori to prove that I was a real Billy Joel fan! It’s just seriously a fun song to sing to! I dare you to listen to it with the video below and NOT bounce to the beat of the section about Brenda and Eddie! Seriously, just play it!

Some research about this song reinforced some things I had already known, it was inspired by an actual visit to a restaurant where the waiter asked Billy, “Would you like a bottle of red… a bottle of white… perhaps a bottle of rose instead?”

Talk about using the moment! Then, he used different songs that he had already written and put them together into this little gem. If you watched the video on my post for  Prelude/Angry Young Man , you hopefully noticed that Billy had a bandage on his left hand while wailing on the piano. Five songs later he played Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and obviously he was in some pain as he shook out his hand in between sections.
