Why THESE RV Cooking Tools?

I’ve enjoyed camping for several decades and have also introduced many people to the joys of camping! Sometimes I have gone canoe camping where you bring everything with you down a river or across a lake. I have gone tent camping, spent many years camping in a pop-up and then a travel trailer. Now I camp primarily in a motorhome. Having the best RV cooking tools has made camping even better!

Over the years, I’ve found a few RV cooking tools that must come with me on every trip. Some of them depend upon electricity, either at a campsite hookup, using an inverter, or by running a generator. Some don’t require any electricity at all! So here are the items that are always packed for a camping trip!

1. A Pressure Cooker!

This has become my number one favorite RV cooking tool! It is perfect after a long drive, or a day spent at the beach or a day sightseeing. Just put in your ingredients and within minutes your family has a meal that they will love! Some of my family’s favorite recipes are chicken tacos, swedish meatballs, and recently I made carne guisada. I’ll post reviews of some recipes soon!

2. An Electric Griddle

Surprising to many people, this is a newer addition to my RV cooking gear! Why did I wait so long to add this? I have no idea! It’s perfect for pancakes and sausages, and also for some quick melted sandwiches like the classic grilled cheese. It cools off fast, so using it at a quick travel stop is a snap!

3. A Toaster

The essential gadget, what camping trip would be complete without a basic toaster? Enough said!

4. Hot Water Kettle

This is another fairly new item to my RV cooking tool list! Once I finally purchased a kettle for my house and realized how handy it was, I knew that I would need it for camping, too! Sure, you can heat water for tea, but I also use it to heat water for cooking because it is so much faster than a stove! It is cord free, so I just lift the kettle off of the base after the water is heated and it is cool enough on the bottom to be set on a counter without any damage. I also use it to heat water for washing dishes if my water heater isn’t running! Can you say hot chocolate while sitting around a glowing campfire! Yes, you need one of these, too!

5. Cast Iron Cookware

I have a cast iron skillet, two dutch ovens, a camp chef cook table, and a trivet and lid lifter. So many people are learning about the benefits of using cast iron! When taken care of, it creates a natural non-stick surface that even fried eggs will slide off of! Have you ever had a steak cooked in cast iron? It is the only way I make them now! I cook with coals outside and make stews, pizza, casseroles, and desserts without heating up my RV! These cooking tools came in really handy when my home had a power outage that lasted three days! I was able to feed my starving family!

6. Stove Top Coffee Maker

One of my first RV cooking tool purchases, I used this outside on my portable cook stove, and I still do use it there, but it’s home is in my RV where I use it almost everyday, when I don’t use a french press. It is a slow perk, but all good things in life come to those who wait! I get the coffee started first thing when I wake up and after my morning routine is done, the coffee is, too!

7. A 12-Volt Slow Cooker

This was given to my by a friend who didn’t have a use for it. I have used it to make pulled pork, Hawaiian chicken, and macaroni and cheese. I have driven with the slow cooker plugged in, but not for long periods of time. I usually pick to use it on days I may drive to a fairly local destination and spend a lot of time there so that when we get out, it is finished and supper can be served. I love this little thing!

8. Thermal Cooker

This one is an unusual item! I had always wanted to be able to cook a meal while driving the 4 or 5 hours to a favorite waterpark because once we checked into the hotel everyone was always starving and we would have to leave again to drive to a restaurant, wait for our food and then eat before returning back to the hotel. By then we were often too tired to enjoy the waterpark. So, I found this thermal cooker! I love it! I use it at home all the time to cook quinoa without having to watch a pot on the stove or worry about boiling over.

This cooker is kind of like a giant thermos. In order to use it, you put your main dish in the larger pot (I have the model with two pots). Rice or quinoa can go in the upper bowl, or don’t cook anything and just put boiling water in it. Both pots boil on the stove for a few minutes and then they are stacked in the cooker and the lid is shut. It can then just sit for up to 8 hours or more! No cords, no heat source at all! And sure enough, when you open it hours later, it is still steaming! You can also smell the food as your drive down the road! I’ve made soups, mexican delight, corned beef, and lots and lots of quinoa! I’m looking for more recipes to use it with!

I have the Saratoga Jacks brand. You can click HERE to go to their website and learn more about how to use it!
